Commutators are a part of the electromagnetic system of a DC electrical rotating machine and the necessary component for the machine’s commutation process. Commutators consist of a steel core and a set of copper segments, insulated from each, in most cases, by mica insulating material. Commutators are mounted on an armature’s shaft and its segments are connected to the armature winding. Following vacuum pressure impregnation of the armature, the commutator is machined, undercut, and deburred.
